Defeating Distractions, Delays, & Disappointments

Defeating Distractions, Delays, & Disappointments

This past year, I discovered an interesting phenomenon. I realized that it took much more faith to keep going than it ever did to start. Start what? Start anything. Just think about it. It’s so much easier to begin a relationship than it is to keep it going. It’s way simpler to start a business-especially in Nevada-than it is to keep it alive and well. And it’s almost effortless to set a goal in comparison to the work it takes to continue working toward that goal, especially after you’ve experienced distractions, delays, and disappointments.

I think one of the hardest things about starting a new year is the realization of how much work you have left to accomplish on the goals that continue to linger from the past. It doesn’t make it any easier when you criticize yourself for not having moved beyond it. When the new year strikes, it can feel counterproductive to work on old goals when everyone is so consumed over the newness of the opportunities ahead. It’s times like those that often lead us to question whether we’ll continue to deal with the same distractions, delays, and disappointments in the future, and that is where I come in.

Honey, I am here to remind you that you are winning at life if you are still working toward those old goals. Why? Because the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. What does that have to do with your old goals? Everything. It means that you are developing patience, faithfulness, and self control every time you return to put in work on that old goal. We’ve already established how easy it is to start a new thing so applaud yourself for keeping that thing in front of you. The harder you work toward accomplishing those goals (whether they are new or not), the more joy and peace you’re going to experience. Trust me, accomplishing your goals will give you confidence, and that always accompanies joy and peace when we remember we don’t ever have to compare ourselves with others. Working toward those goals will help you develop kindness, goodness, and gentleness, too. Think that’s a stretch? Not at all. We all become more compassionate toward others when we see them go through the same things we encountered in our journey. Empathy is real and it’s elevated in humility so let’s connect.

Those distractions, delays, and disappointments will not defeat you. The only thing that they will do is to help you to develop the character you need to sustain you for the place you are going. Trust the process, but more importantly trust the God who oversees the process. Whenever you begin to feel defeated, remember that it would not be worthwhile if there were no challenge involved. That challenge, that time, that pursuit is going to make it that much sweeter. You’ve. Got. This. In. The. Bag.

I’m not here to write a blog that no one reads. I’m not here to send a newsletter out to push my events. I am here to help you accomplish your goals. I am here to hold you accountable. Comment below to share those old goals you’re continuing to work toward because when you own it, you will remember that you are worthy of it. You’re worthy of the peace you were in pursuit of in 2019. You’re worthy of the income you expressed you wanted to make in 2018. You’re worthy of the friendship you shared you wanted to experience in 2017. We’re here for it. Now, of course, I’m not gonna ask you to share without sharing myself. It’s my turn: I am worthy of the partnerships I named in 2014.

Let’s pray.

Dear God, in the name of Jesus, we are here again, calling your name and seeking your face because we know that you are the One who sustains us, the One who loves us, the One who fills us with purpose. God, we are humbled by the fact that you listen to us and that you call us your children. You are more than a gift giver to us, Lord God. Your love alone is the best gift we have ever received. Still, we know that you give us the desires of our heart when we delight ourselves in you so today we are bringing the desires of our heart to you because we know that we can trust you with them. God, we are bold enough to believe you want the businesses, friendships, marriages, abundance, peace, love, and health that we continue to set goals for year after year. We have a few new things before you in this new year, but today we are asking that you bless those desires of our heart that we have begun to whisper out of fear that our faith has made a mockery of us. Today, we’re here to bring those goals to you that we’ve begun to concede defeat toward and ask that you remind us we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus. Today, we ask that you speak again, that you breathe new life, and that you fill us up with desire to see those things we once boldly asked you for become reality. Today, we ask that you give us the discipline, the self control, the patience, and the faithfulness to continue working toward it day after day. We thank you for using it to help us become more like you in every way because you are the real goal and we dedicate ourselves to you all over again. Thank you for loving us and thank you for hearing us. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
