With Michanda Shines
On a scale of 1-10, how kind would you say you have been lately? If that’s hard to quantify, don’t worry, our guest Michanda, has a few clues that we can investigate to grow and develop an awareness about whether we are showing kindness. Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit and it is a fruit that the world is celebrating, especially now that the holidays are here. However, we know that because it’s a fruit, we have to depend on Holy Spirit to help us cultivate and demonstrate it to others.

Kindness is translated from the Greek word, chrēstotēs, and it means kindness, gentleness, and integrity. For those of you who know me, you know that one of the things I say is, “Integrity is everything.” Naturally, that word caught my eye. Oxford Languages defines integrity as the quality of being whole and undivided. Yikes, that means that when we show kindness, we show it irrespective of the situation. When we show kindness, we show it consistently. When we show kindness, we reflect our God’s character more intentionally every day.
I mean, have you thought about how kind Jesus was? He showed kindness when he was disappointed, when He was inconvenienced, and when others didn’t even believe that where He was spending His time was worthy or worth it.
Michanda, our guest today, is a model, an actress, and a triathlete. (Sis, that means she runs, bikes, and swims. Don’t feel bad, I just learned what it means, too.) She came through to give us a few clues to look for in order to check our own kindness levels.
- Are you doing the deep work? Therapy is nothing to be ashamed about!
- Are you practicing a sabbath or even resting? When we start rushing, we become rude: 9 out of 10 times.
- Are you listening to the unction within your heart when it moves you to show kindness? It’s not always super hard to show kindness. You don’t have to overspiritualize it. When God moves you to do something, even if it’s just smiling or saying hello to someone, just do it.
Isn’t that a blessing?!
